By the time (if ever)the expelled hot air from the laptop has recirculated to the inlet of the laptop or cooler it has adjusted to the ambient temperature of the location. The air that your laptop is pulling into the case is cooler than the air being expelled! Think about it, it is shooting the air that you laptop wants to get out, back in.
